About the Role

As a Business Analyst, you will play a key role in shaping these services. You will work in agile, multidisciplinary teams alongside product managers, developers, designers, and policy experts to ensure that digital solutions meet real user needs and deliver measurable public value.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, influencing decision-making, and turning unclear business challenges into structured, deliverable requirements. You will help bridge the gap between business needs and technical solutions, ensuring that digital services are efficient, accessible, and user-focused.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work within agile, multi-disciplinary digital delivery teams to support product development
  • Translate business problems and user needs into clear, structured requirements
  • Develop and maintain user stories, epics, and acceptance criteria
  • Lead workshops, interviews, and stakeholder engagement sessions
  • Analyse existing business processes and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Model current and future-state processes using recognised analysis techniques
  • Collaborate with Product Managers on backlog refinement and prioritisation
  • Support decision-making by providing clear, evidence-based analysis
  • Ensure alignment between technical delivery and business objectives
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of digital services and BA practices
  • Mentor or support junior or apprentice Business Analysts when required

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience working as a Business Analyst in a digital or agile environment
  • Strong ability to define, analyse, and manage business and user requirements
  • Experience using business analysis tools and techniques (e.g. process mapping, user stories)
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Experience working across complex or large-scale projects

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience working in government, public sector, or large enterprise environments
  • Familiarity with Agile frameworks such as Scrum or Kanban
  • Experience contributing to digital transformation or service redesign projects
  • Experience coaching or mentoring junior analysts

Job Details

  • Location: Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield (various hubs)
  • Job Type: Permanent (Full-time, Job Share, Part-time, Flexible Working options available)
  • Salary: £44,447 – £46,547 per annum
  • Department: DWP Digital
  • Working Pattern: Hybrid (minimum office attendance required depending on agreement)
