Worth knowing before you read the job description: this isn't a general customer service inbox role. Cargomatic is hiring a Customer Support Specialist to sit specifically between one of its clients and its internal operations team — meaning you'd own a single account's shipment coordination end-to-end, rather than fielding whatever comes in across the whole customer base. That's a meaningfully different day-to-day than a typical support role, closer to dedicated account support than a call-center-style queue.
The role is fully remote, full-time, and comes with a solid benefits package including HSA-eligible medical plans, dental, vision, and company-paid disability coverage.
What Cargomatic Does
Cargomatic connects shippers with local trucking and drayage services through its technology platform, and has been recognized as a Built In Best Places to Work company in recent years. It currently operates with a meaningful number of open roles, suggesting active, ongoing growth rather than a one-off vacancy.
A Day in This Role
Because you're the client's primary point of contact, the job blends customer-facing communication with genuine operational ownership across four areas:
Talking to people:
- Acting as the day-to-day contact for shipment status, scheduling, and service issues
- Responding promptly across phone, email, and other channels
- Giving accurate updates on delays, appointment changes, and exceptions
- Flagging potential problems to the client before they become complaints
Keeping shipments moving:
- Monitoring shipments through the full transportation lifecycle
- Coordinating pickup/delivery appointments and special requirements
- Following up with drivers, carriers, and internal operations teams
- Keeping shipment records and customer requirements accurate in Cargomatic's systems
Fixing what goes wrong:
- Resolving exceptions — delays, missed appointments, driver issues, equipment constraints, delivery discrepancies
- Escalating appropriately while staying accountable through to resolution
- Working directly with drivers and terminal staff to sort out day-to-day issues
- Spotting recurring problems and suggesting improvements
Keeping the paperwork straight:
- Handling proof of delivery and other required shipment documentation
- Reviewing shipment data for accuracy and flagging discrepancies
- Supporting customer-specific reporting and tracking
- Making sure billing information is accurate and submitted on time
What You'll Need
- 2+ years in customer support, logistics, transportation, freight, dispatch, or account coordination
- Experience supporting customers in a fast-paced operational environment is a plus
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Excellent organization and attention to detail
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities and follow issues through to resolution
- Strong problem-solving skills and good judgment under pressure
- Comfortable communicating directly with drivers, carriers, customers, and internal teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and/or transportation management systems (TMS)
Nice to have: experience specifically in drayage, trucking, freight, or logistics; experience supporting large enterprise or industrial accounts; familiarity with shipment tracking, appointment scheduling, PODs, and accessorials; or hands-on TMS experience.
