About the Senior / Lead Data Engineer Role

Billigence is seeking experienced Senior / Lead Data Engineers to join its growing Data Cloud Practice in Australia.

This opportunity is designed for data professionals who enjoy hands-on technical delivery while also having an interest in client-facing consulting, technical leadership, mentoring, and capability development.

You will work with leading organisations across sectors such as banking and finance, insurance, government, telecommunications, media, and FMCG.

The position is approximately 80% technical project delivery and 20% leadership responsibilities, with the successful candidate supporting the Practice Lead in capability building and delivery quality.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior or Lead Data Engineer, you will:

• Deliver cloud-based data engineering solutions for major clients.
• Design and implement modern data engineering solutions.
• Provide technical direction and data engineering best practices.
• Work directly with clients and stakeholders during requirements gathering.
• Contribute to pre-sales activities and solution design.
• Provide technical thought leadership across client engagements.
• Support data engineering delivery across different industries.
• Mentor and support other members of the technical team.
• Help improve delivery standards and technical quality.
• Support the Practice Lead with capability development.
• Take on leadership responsibilities and grow into a broader leadership position.

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for this Senior / Lead Data Engineer opportunity, candidates should have:

• 7–10 years of experience across data engineering, cloud computing, or data warehousing.
• Strong hands-on experience with one or more modern data platforms, including:
  • Snowflake
  • Databricks
  • Amazon Redshift
  • Microsoft Fabric
• Strong knowledge of data modelling.
• Strong experience with ETL processes.
• Advanced SQL skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• A consulting-oriented mindset.
• Ability to work directly with clients and business stakeholders.
• Ability to provide technical direction and support delivery teams.
• Willingness and ability to step into a lead role.

Previous formal leadership experience is beneficial but is not essential if you can demonstrate the ability to take on technical leadership responsibilities.

Desirable Skills and Experience
