AI Design Tutor (Remote, International)

SpaceXAI is looking for an AI Design Tutor to help train its Grok model to tell the difference between design that merely looks good and design that actually works.

This isn't a production design job. You won't be pushed to master every tool or medium — instead, the company wants people with sharp, well-formed taste who can explain why something succeeds or fails, and who can step in to fix or recreate weak examples when needed. It's a fit for experienced designers who enjoy critique and teaching as much as making.

The role is open worldwide, offered as full-time, part-time, or contractor work depending on fit, which makes it a flexible option for designers who want remote, judgment-driven work outside a traditional studio or agency setting.

What the Role Involves

• Reviewing design outputs across formats — visual assets, layouts, documents, websites, interactive prototypes, and games
• Telling apart designs that look polished from ones that genuinely function well, and clearly explaining where surface-level appeal breaks down in practice
• Reworking, restyling, or rebuilding weaker outputs into strong reference examples
• Writing clear, well-argued critiques and annotations that distinguish mediocre, good, and excellent design
• Helping build labeled datasets covering graphic design, interface design, web experience, and game feel
• Partnering with engineering teams to shape evaluation rubrics and quality benchmarks
• Maintaining consistent judgment across a wide range of project styles and complexity levels

Who Can Apply

• Proven design excellence in at least one professional area — graphic design, brand/visual design, product or UI/UX design, web design, game design, or illustration
• A portfolio that demonstrates strong taste and finished work (personal site, Behance, Dribbble, ArtStation, shipped products, or published work)
• Strong grasp of design fundamentals: hierarchy, typography, spacing, color, composition, and clarity
• Ability to assess design quality even outside your main specialty, with clear reasoning for what works and what doesn't
• Fluent written English, strong enough for detailed critique and rationale
• High attention to detail and comfort working with instructions that evolve quickly
• Willingness to build strong reference examples yourself, not just evaluate existing ones
• A plus: experience across more than one design discipline, accessibility/inclusive design knowledge, familiarity with tools like Figma or Adobe Creative Cloud, or prior experience in design critique, QA, or AI data annotation

Pay and Contract Details

• Pay (US-based): $35–$75 per hour, depending on experience, skills, education, and location

• Hours (contractors): Flexible and self-set; most projects average around 10+ hours per week, but there's no fixed minimum commitment
