National Taiwan University Scholarships 2027 – Funded Masters & PhD Awards for International Students

National Taiwan University (NTU) — ranked as one of Asia's top universities and home to more than 32,000 students — offers international Master's and PhD applicants several distinct funded scholarship options, rather than one single flat award. That distinction is worth knowing upfront, since the actual funding you'd receive depends heavily on which scholarship tier and college you're admitted into, not a single fixed amount across the whole university.

Applying is more straightforward than you might expect: for most of NTU's main international scholarships, there's no separate scholarship application at all — you simply tick the scholarship box within your regular degree application, and eligible students are automatically considered.

About NTU

Founded in 1928, National Taiwan University is a national university based in Taipei City and widely regarded as one of the top-ranked universities in Asia. Programmes are taught in both Chinese and English across a very wide range of academic fields, from physics and engineering to public health, pharmacology, and the arts.

The Scholarship Options

Outstanding International Graduate Student Scholarship

  • Tuition waiver of up to NTD 130,000 per academic year
  • Minimum monthly stipend: NTD 6,000 (Master's) or NTD 8,000 (PhD)
  • Duration: up to 2 years for Master's, up to 3 years for PhD
  • Open to all students applying to NTU's international graduate degree programmes
  • Renewal depends on annual academic performance review by the relevant college committee

NTU Elite Doctoral Student Scholarship (PhD only)

  • "Royal Palm" tier: monthly stipend of NTD 40,000
  • "Diligent" tier: monthly stipend of NTD 20,000
  • Available to all students applying for an international doctoral programme

International Student Financial Assistance Grant (undergraduate)

  • Full tuition waiver plus a monthly stipend of NTD 6,000
  • Available for up to 4 years, with renewal tied to maintaining a minimum GPA each year (3.0 in year one, rising to 3.33 by year three)

Some colleges — including Science, Engineering, Medicine, Bio-Resources & Agriculture, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, Public Health, and Life Science — offer higher stipend tiers (NTD 15,000+ per month) for PhD students within the Outstanding International Graduate Student Scholarship, so it's worth checking your specific department's scholarship page directly for the exact figure that applies to you.

What's Not Covered

Even with a tuition waiver, recipients are generally still responsible for administrative fees, thesis advisor's fees, insurance, accommodation, internet service, and similar smaller costs — these aren't included in the headline tuition/stipend figures above.

Who Can Apply

  • Open to applicants of any nationality
  • Must hold a Bachelor's degree to apply for Master's programmes, or a Master's degree to apply for PhD programmes
  • Language proficiency requirements apply, depending on whether your chosen programme is taught in Chinese or English

How to Apply

For NTU's main scholarship programmes, there's no separate scholarship application to complete: you apply for your chosen degree programme through NTU's online admissions system, check the scholarship consideration box, and eligible applicants are automatically reviewed for funding — no extra documents or separate procedure required for most awards. It's worth contacting your potential supervisor directly about scholarship possibilities where relevant, particularly for PhD applications.
